Work to Residence Changes for Bus and Truck Drivers
If you're a bus or truck driver eyeing an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), there are some key updates you need to know. Starting from April 7, 2024, applicants for an AEWV and those who commence work in these roles on an open work visa won't be eligible to apply for a Transport Work to Residence visa. However, if you already hold an AEWV or have applied for one (and get approved), or if you're already working on an open work visa, fret not – you're still eligible for a Transport Work to Residence visa.
Green List Changes
Exciting news awaits as six roles are being added to the Green List, encompassing nine ANZSCO occupations. This move opens up new avenues for individuals aspiring to secure Straight to Residence visas. Here's a rundown of the newly included roles:
- Aviation Engineer (Avionics, Aeronautical, Aerospace Engineer)
- Naval Architect (aka Marine Designer)
- ICT Database and Systems Administrator
- Mechanical Engineering Technician
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer
- Corrections Officer
The Exclusions
Unfortunately, not all roles made the cut. Despite previous anticipation, several roles will not be added to the Green List. Here's the list of those excluded:
- Paving Plant Operator
- Metal Fabricator
- Pressure Welder
- Welder
- Fitter (General)
- Fitter and Turner
- Fitter-Welder
- Metal Machinist (First Class)
- Panel Beater
- Vehicle Painter
- Road Roller Operator
Construction and Infrastructure Sector Agreement
In other news, plans to integrate seven roles into the Construction and Infrastructure Sector Agreement have been shelved. These roles, although not progressing as anticipated, remain essential within the sector:
- Driller’s Assistant
- Earthmoving Labourer
- Earthmoving Plant Operator (general)
- Machine Operators not elsewhere classified
- Mechanic’s Assistant
- Road Traffic Controller
Conclusion
With these updates, the New Zealand immigration landscape is evolving to better meet the needs of both the country and skilled workers seeking opportunities. Whether you're a bus driver, aviation engineer, or corrections officer, these changes present fresh possibilities for your career journey in New Zealand. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to navigate these exciting developments together!
